June 2009
Greetings once again
to all our members and shipmates.
The year is drawing
closed on another Association year and before I proceed further I
have the unfortunate task of reporting on the passing of another
of our Sydney II “Old and Bold”, ex CPOTEL Eric Moran, who crossed
the bar on June 4th on his 95th birthday. Several of our
Association members attended his funeral at Williamstown on June
19th to bid a last farewell to a real gentleman. Marty G did a
sterling job in delivering a fine eulogy during the service, along
with other family members. RIP Eric and smooth sailing. You will
be missed by many.
The Anzac day
services held at Chelsea (Sun 19th April) and in the city were
both blessed with fine weather and we had a good turnout of
Association personnel. On the subject of personnel, it was great
to have Patron Jim leading the push and it was pleasing to see he
is well on the road to recovery after his lapse in health over the
last few months.
I have been
representing the Association at the Kindred Associations meetings
with the view to sorting out any problems with the Anzac Day march
in the city. It seems to have gone off pretty well this year and
may it continue to do so.
As we are drawing
ever closer to our AGM, I will remind you all once again that your
nominations are due for positions on your Committee. It is as
simple as putting your hand up and contacting Secretary “Speed”
with reasons why you would be great in a position that suits your
particular talents. Easy! As I mentioned in my last report, I will
not be re-standing as President this year due to health issues, so
there is an opening there for an ambitious soul!
My thanks go out
once again to Speed and the LEO Ladies for the organization they
put in towards the Pleasant Sunday social which was held at the
Naval Memorial Club on May 24th. Another great event. Anyone who
missed out will just have to attend the next one ( Xmas in July –
19th July) and enjoy themselves as we did.
Thanks also to ALL
of the Committee for their input over the last year. We have
achieved a lot. Long may it continue.
Until I see you all
at the AGM,
Yours Aye,
John Atkins,
President 2008/2009.
