My email of the 10th of April titled 'Agent Orange Push'
My email of the 15th of April titled 'RSL VIC Support etc'
Dear John
Both of my previous emails have failed to enunciate the fact that
the 13,000 sailors mentioned in my previous emails are those that
served in the logistical support role i.e., those that served in
either HMAS Sydney or the escorting destroyers or frigates to HMAS
Sydney.
I have neglected to also point out that there were a further 2,858
members of the RAN who served in HMA Ships off the coast of Vietnam
in support of the US Seventh fleet, the diving teams in the ports of
Vung Tau, Cam Rahn Bay and Da Nang, the helicopter crews attached to
"EMU" squadron and the RAN helicopter pilots attached to 9 Squadron
RAAF at Vung Tau. Giving an all-up figure of almost 16, 000 members
of the RAN who served in the Vietnam war between 1965-1972.
I apologize profusely for not clearly indicating this in my previous
correspondence to you. I am hopeful that the State Executive of the
RSL can give this issue its full and unqualified support. I await
your response with much interest.
Regards
