Subject: Nominal Roll of Vietnam Veterans - HMA Ships Vampire and Quickmatch, 25th to 29th January 1962.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing on behalf of the Association requesting that the ships companies of HMAS Vampire and HMAS Quickmatch be appended to the Nominal Roll of Vietnam Veterans in line with all other Vietnam Veterans. It is officially recorded that these two ships entered Vietnamese waters and transited the Long Tao shipping channel at the behest of the then Federal Government on the dates noted above, and that they were there for the purposes of visibly and diplomatically supporting the Vietnamese Government of the day.

These factors have been recognised, in part, by the assignment of Veterans status by the Department of Veterans' Affairs, promulgated by Ministerial direction some five years ago. I refer you to DVA Facts - Qualifying Service - Australian Vietnam Veterans , IS 59 which states in part, that: "a person assigned for service on HMAS Ships Vampire or Quickmatch in Vietnam during the period 25 January 1962 to 29 January 1962;" One can only conclude from this that these persons are Australian Vietnam Veterans, and as such, should be given the courtesy of being appended to the Nominal roll of Vietnam Veterans in line with all other persons who served in Vietnam.

Regards
