Dear Dr Carroll

Thank you for your letter received on 2 August 2007 concerning HMA SHIPS Quickmatch and Vampire.

We anticipate that an enhanced Vietnam Nominal Roll website will be available on the Internet as from late August 2007. The website address will remain unchanged as www.vietnamroll.gov.au

The current website contains a message regarding our intention to include the names of those who served on the two ships during a visit to Saigon in January 1962. As an interim measure, we will place the same message on the enhanced website. We have been advised by Department of Defence that the ships’ lists, which would cover the Jan 1962 period, cannot be located. This has severely impeded our ability to locate and confirm the names of those who served during the visit as we must now rely on those veterans contacting us with their name etc. The listing you have provided for HMAS VAMPIRE will indeed be of great assistance to progress the data collection of information for the website.

I cannot give you an exact timeframe for when the names will appear on the website. It is our intention that names will be added to the website progressively as we are able to confirm their service from the individual’s Record of Service card.

I regret the web page for Quickmatch and Vampire may not be finalised before the enhanced website is made available to the public. I seek the continued patience of youself and your members and assure you the web page will be completed as quickly as we can.

Yours sincerely

(Mr) Kerry B Hodge
